Namibia Ranked Top of African Safari Wishlist
PUBLISHED 27 SEP 2018
According to a recent report in UK-based Travel Weekly, market analysis conducted by specialist African tour operator, Acacia Africa, has ranked Namibia as the number one destination on its African Safari Wishlist.
After analysing three months of data, which assessed what the different countries had to offer, as well as budgets and tour durations, the tour company ranked Namibia — which lies on Africa's south-western coastline — the most popular destination for safari tours.
With its abundant wildlife, spectacular scenery and unique offerings, Namibia pipped usual safari favourites, Botswana and Tanzania to the top spot.
According to Arno Delport, sales and marketing manager at Acacia Africa: "Namibia might not be in the same league as Tanzania or Botswana when it comes to the density of the wildlife, but it's an all-rounder if we're talking about incredible journeys or safaris."
Namibia has a lot to offer besides game viewing, including various adventure sports and activities, such as sand-boarding, surfing, river rafting, parachuting, hot air ballooning, hiking, mountain biking, and more that attracts adrenalin junkies from all over the world. Then there's the unique and spectacular scenery, which is simply mind-blowing.
"Combine a whole eight months of 24/7 game viewing in Etosha National Park with an almost endless list of adrenaline activities in the adventure capital of Swakopmund. Add in a few impressive larger than life landmarks like the Fish River River Canyon and you have the recipe for an amazing adventure," says Delport, adding that "it's also one of the best places to spot the cheetah, the world's fastest land mammal, so if you haven't already, get Namibia on your Africa wishlist!"
Acacia Africa run overland tours all over Africa, with over 30 tour packages that include safari tours of Namibia on the itinerary, as well as neighbouring South Africa, ranked number 4, and many of the other countries listed in the top 10 of their African Safari Wishlist.
Kenya and Zambia, both recognized for their national parks and game reserves that offer superb game viewing opportunities, ranked 5th and 6th respectively — Zambia was recently (2018) ranked as one of the top 10 safest countries in the world to visit, adding to its allure. Seventh and eighth spot were taken up by Zimbabwe and Uganda, while Zanzibar and Malawi, both popular dive destinations, filled 9th and 10th spot respectively.
The countries that made the top ten of Acacia Africa's Safari Wishlist were ranked as follows:
