Habitas Hotels has chosen Namibia for its next destination Hotel

PUBLISHED 12 DEC 2018

The Habitas group is a niche accommodation group with aspirations to change the way we see, away from home accommodation as we know it and wants to have a Habitas property in every major city and destination across the world.

The group has chosen to put down roots in some of the world’s most interesting locations, one of which is Namibia. “Namibia is one of the most incredible unknown destinations in the world and we wanted to challenge the traditional concept of what it meant to go on safari and to engage with the environment and culture.” Says Ripley Oliver, one of the group’s founders.

Ripley, says, explaining their interior concept; “when you come into one of our spaces you will not recognize certain colours, materials, architecture as you might with traditional hospitality brands. Our design language is unique to each property; it reflects and represents the local environment and nature and is designed to integrate you in the most real way to connect with your surroundings. We look to build sustainable spaces that are unexpected and playful. The commonality you will see is in the social architecture — the way in which we physically lay out spaces to bring people together.

A strong focus will be placed on ensuring the property will have a minimal impact on the ecosystem, as well as be environmentally friendly. It will be built in conjunction with local carpenters and artisans which will not only create 500 much needed jobs over 5 years but will also bring N$1 Billion injection in the country’s economy.

The 40-room hotel will house a state-of-the-art spa, an education & learning centre and an event and convention facility.

The guest rooms – each with a custom-built private lodge constructed with minimal impact to the surrounding environment – will have outdoor and indoor showers, and private viewing decks with their own telescopes for star gazing. The main lobby will overlook the property and will have communal gathering areas, a restaurant, fire pits, and a variety of areas to relax and lounge

Further, Ripley mentioned that the Habitas experience for guests and members will be focused on adventure, education and learning, including viewing and studying the surrounding wildlife, learning about local tribes, customs and history, local and international food experiences, music concerts (local and international artists) and working with on-site wellness practitioners.

We are very happy to have chosen Namibia as our first home in Africa. We thank Comsar for its vision and support to transform a historic hunting lodge into a world-class wildlife reserve for the conservation of species. This is our first step in a long-term partnership to bring a new generation of conscious tourism to Namibia,” Ripley noted.

Habitas pride themselves on its reputation for offering global curated experiences on wellness, food and music and Habitas Namibia will be no different.

“So that wherever we travel for pleasure or for work, we can meet amazing people, our children can play and grow together and we can form unforgettable friendships and experiences” – the Habitas ambition is sky-high.
