Two lodges in Oshikango was destroyed due to a fire.

1 May is celebrated worldwide by people around the world as Workers Day. This public holiday is normally spent by downtime at home or a weekend away trip. Unfortunately, Wednesday was not celebrated by everyone as two lodges in Oshikango was destroyed due to a fire.

A fire broke out and damaged both Oshikango Town Lodge and Bennies Park in the northern border town of Oshikango, in the Ohangwena Region.

Both structures’ thatch roofs were completely burnt out, while three buildings at Bennies Park’s roofs were also gutted. The fire started at Oshikango Town Lodge and jumped 200m to Bennies Park, causing substantial damage to the buildings and their interior.

An investigation is due to follow, due to the fact that the buildings seemed to burn almost simultaneously, yet left a building between them unharmed.

Bennies Park is an institution to locals and tourists, who compare the facilities to an oasis, especially with its almost olympic sized swimming pool, 124 rooms to choose from and ample conference facilities.

The Entertainment Park regularly hosts fairs, carnivals and year-end bashes, while weddings are also a regular occurrence. The Park had an upgrade just 6 years ago where N$20 million was spent on the rooms, facilities and swimming pool.

Unfortunately this hits close to home for the MyProperty Namibia team as we are a portal for not only residential properties, but also commercial properties like Game farms, Lodges and Guesthouses.

Our sincerest thoughts are with the employees and guests who were staying at the lodges at the time and had to go through this.
