Dordabis at a glance

A small community a mere 80 kilometers from the capital of Windhoek, Dordabis is a farming community surrounded by tall acacia trees between rounded, bush-covered hills.

The historical village of Dordabis was established by August Stauch who purchased the Dordabis, Ibenstein, and Protea farms to develop it as a trade centre. His daughter Marianne, and her husband Nicolai Krafft, started Karakul sheep farming and opened the first carpet weavers in Namibia on the farm Ibenstein.

While the main activity in the area is farming, many artists have made this area home in recent years, and incredible landscapes make this a popular destination for tourists that often visits one of the many lodges and tented camps in the area.

Dordabis has a post office, health clinic, police station, and primary school.
