For Aniska Vollgraaff, real estate isn’t just a career, it’s a passion that started unexpectedly over a dinner conversation in Cape Town. Since that pivotal moment, she has built a successful 15-year career that’s taken her from South Africa’s property scene to Namibia’s thriving coastal market, where she proudly leads Vollgraaff Real Estate (VRE).
Aniska has a clear specialty: the growing new developments in Mile 4 Extension and the surrounding areas in Swakopmund. It’s a market she knows well and loves working in, particularly because of her passion for construction, design, and brand-new homes. “I’m naturally drawn to newly built properties, there’s something exciting about being part of a home’s very first chapter,” she says.
Aniska’s path to real estate was inspired by family, her father-in-law, to be exact. Over dinner, he mentioned that she’d do well in property, a seed that took root when she later moved to Bloubergstrand, Cape Town, with her husband. She soon landed a position as a personal assistant to a high-profile, award-winning real estate agent; the perfect introduction to the world of property.
“I’ve never looked back since,” Aniska says. That leap of faith eventually led her to Namibia in 2017, where she brought her experience, enthusiasm, and marketing savvy to the local market.
According to Aniska, Swakopmund’s property market is shifting fast, and prices are climbing just as quickly. “We’re seeing property prices rise rapidly and dramatically, both in sales and rentals,” she explains. This surge reflects growing demand, especially for vacant plots, which are increasingly popular among buyers looking to build their dream homes.
Sellers and buyers alike are tuned into these trends, and one question Aniska hears often (jokingly and not): “Are you negotiable?” It’s clear that even in a competitive market, clients are always on the lookout for value.
Aniska brings with her a wealth of experience from Cape Town’s tech-forward agencies, where digital contracts and electronic processes were the norm. “While Namibia is catching up in some areas, technologies like virtual reality and AI will increasingly influence the way we market and sell properties,” she says.
Vollgraaff Real Estate has already started incorporating virtual tours to enhance their listings, but Aniska remains eager to explore more innovative tools, provided the market is ready for them. She also sees value in improved service collaborations, particularly with bond originators, who can help streamline the home-buying process for clients.
If there’s one task she could automate, it would be the tedious municipal and Erongo service connections and disconnections, a time-consuming process that could be greatly improved with online solutions.
When it comes to running VRE, Aniska’s priorities are clear: create a supportive, positive work environment for her team and ensure client satisfaction at every turn. “It’s not all about the money,” she says. “We genuinely enjoy what we do, and I believe that passion really shines through in our work. Selling up a storm is just a bonus; the real reward is in building lasting relationships.”
Her personal goal for the next year? To continue nurturing the VRE team, maintaining the agency’s high standards, and ensuring clients feel valued and supported throughout their property journey.
Swakopmund might not have traditional “on show” days like some markets, but that doesn’t mean Aniska skips her coffee fix. She’s a cappuccino fan through and through. And while she can’t recall the exact first property she ever sold, the many deals and moments of connection she’s experienced over the years remain vivid highlights in her career.
Creating unique, engaging property advertisements is another part of the job she approaches with creativity, though she admits it can be a challenge to keep things fresh. “Every home has its own story,” she says. “You just have to find the right way to tell it.”
And when she reflects on what she’s built, Aniska says it with pride: “I am so very proud of VRE.”
